Project Phoenix in collaboration with Caritas Cyprus is currently providing 10 asylum seekers and refugees in Cyprus with professional online English classes and professional mentoring sessions while COVID-19 hinders students’ participation in in-person English classes. The current 13-week course consists of weekly 60-75 minute professional English classes, either taught individually or in a pair, as well as individual biweekly professional mentoring sessions.
The English classes enable students to remain active language learners during the recurring lockdown, as they study with English language professionals based in India and the United States. The classes are for free and take place online on the communication platform, Google Meet. The teachers design custom lessons for their students based on their needs to improve English speaking, writing, listening, and reading skills.
This project also includes biweekly individual mentoring sessions, which aim to support the student in their CV development, cover letter writing, as well as professional interview preparation tailored to the student’s career path goals.
Unfortunately, the admissions for this project have closed, as we have reached the maximum capacity of students for this uniquely tailored project.
Project Phoenix is currently developing, ‘αστερισμός’//’Constellation’, a social innovation lab in Nicosia, where we plan to bring like-minded individuals together who support each other in their professional development and collective learning. A space where new ideas are created and shared and where those who wish can receive professional mentoring run by Project Phoenix.
Stay up to date by following along on our ‘Constellation’ journey and interacting with our other projects on our website and social media channels.
