The project will offer work orientation and VOCATIONAL TRAINING programs aimed at facilitating the entrance of Third Country Nationals into THE LABOUR MARKETin Cyprus. The project will assess skills, qualifications, provide training programs and offer tailored advice, in order to create a robust understanding of the labour market and facilitate quick and effective access to employment for Third Country Nationals. The objective is to help TCNs further develop basic social, work and language skills, as well as provide vocational training to facilitate the integration of TCNs into the labour market and participate in economic and social life of Cyprus.

First Step aims to serve as many TCNs – Recognized Refugees, Resettled Refugees, International Protection Beneficiaries, Asylum Seekers, Third Country Nationals (student, work, spouse visa) – as possible from all over Cyprus. However, the courses will be held in Nicosia and Limassol, at the premises of the European University of Cyprus. The training courses offered will adhere to the residence status of the candidates.

The duration of the project is 18 months starting in February 1st 2019. Phase A’ training courses (300 candidates) will be held between July 2019 and January 2020 whilst Phase B’ training courses will take place within January to April 2020. After professional orientation development (April to July 2020), the project finishes with a 1-year scholarship at the European University Cyprus awarded to the highest scoring candidate.

“First Step” is co-funded by the Asylum, Migration and Integration fund (90%) and the Republic of Cyprus (10%), with a budget up to 250,000.

Training/Seminar Title: 
FIRST STEP - PHASE A' trainings
Training/Seminar description: 

Training is free of charge and will take place at the premises of the European University Cyprus. The training courses will be organized by EEO group A.E and jointly designed / delivered by AKMI, the European University Cyprus and KESEA under the supervision of IMH. The Phase A training courses will involve 300 candidates, which include 36 hours (6 hours per day) of at least 15 classes including training on:

  1. labour policies and law in Cyprus and the EU, working culture and rights in Cyprus
  2. Transferable skills e.g. working in teams, intercultural competences
  3. Professional development skills e.g. interview skills, CV building 

After the completion of Phase A' trainings, 100 candidates will continue to Phase B' Trainings which will involve job expertise on a number of professions, indicatively: cook assistant, warehouse worker, housekeeping etc
